Atlanta Braves vs Houston Astros News, Analysis and Selection
The Atlanta Braves have two more chances to win their first World Series championship since 1995, after losing a four-point home lead in Game 5. Now the series intensifies as we return to Houston, where the Astros can force a deciding game. 7.
Max Fried recovers the ball for the Braves in Game 6. Fried was in command in his first two playoff starts, but has recently weakened. The former first-round pick allowed 10 earned runs, 11 overall, in his last two outings spanning 9.2 innings. Opponents arrive at Fried, recording 15 hits and three walks in those starts. Fried had good fluency in his last outing and has enough shots in his arsenal for him to leave the Astros guessing. The pendulum has swung enough and we expect Fried to start moving towards the averages.
The Astros continue to score at unbearable rates, putting them at risk of cooling down at the worst time of the year. We’ve seen some regression for the Stros throughout the series, as they’ve been limited to two points or less in three of five games. This decrease in production could have repercussions on tonight’s competition, as the Braves pen arrives rested after a day of rest yesterday.
Both reliever pens have been exceptional this season and, as we’ve seen throughout this series, they can keep their teams in games even when they’re lagging behind. The Astros relievers have an earned-run average of 2.85, followed closely by the Braves at 3.24. If any of the starters wobble, these lifter pens can be used to eat innings.
The first glance at the starting pitcher would indicate that the game is over. However, we anticipate Fried progression, a lukewarm Astros offense and sustained bullpen production, all of which point to low-scoring play. We are below Game 6 tonight.
