Stellar Peruvian restaurant debuts in Lynnwood, along with 14 other Seattle-area openings
Peruvian restaurant El Rey in Lynnwood is one of the best South American restaurants to debut in Puget Sound in the past five years. A good introduction to Peruvian cuisine for beginners, El Rey serves basic Lima products, from stir-fried steak with fries and rice (lomo saltado) to creamy potato (papa a la huancaína) as well as a excellent fried fish and roast chicken. Wash these dishes with an Inca Kola or a pitcher of chicha morada, a purple corn drink. The portions are generous, with most dishes costing $ 15 or less. El Rey is a family affair, with matriarch Yacira Mayta cooking and serving seven days a week, while her sister, husband, son and two daughters participate. Be patient if the going gets tough. Stay overnight and / or avoid peak lunch and dinner times.

The first Pint & Pie debuted in Tacoma last year, followed by another in downtown Redmond last month. Steed hopes to open up to 12 branches in West Washington, including Stanwood, Kent and Auburn. After that, look for other Pint & Pie locations in Oregon, Eastern Washington, and Arizona. The business model is written in its name, an emphasis on craft beer with meat pies and desserts for a food menu. Pastry chef Carolyn Ferguson, trained at Cordon Bleu in Paris and owner of Belle Epicurean in Seattle, will prepare a dozen different savory and sweet pies for the chain. The downtown Redmond location can fit around 85 indoors, and the owners plan to add a patio next year. The refreshment bar is open to all ages.
