Shake Shack, Playa Bowls, Crumbl Cookies are coming to the South Shore


The arrival of new restaurants on the South Shore is a promising sign for the future. From bakeries to popular chains to neighborhood pubs, the local food landscape from Quincy to Plymouth has plenty of new offerings.

Chopsticks and forks, Scituate

Restaurateur Sam Lin will bring a high-end Asian fusion to Scituate in the coming weeks. The restaurant, which is slated to open in about a month and a half, takes over Riva’s old location and will be the city’s first sit-down Asian restaurant. Lin opened Meadow Asian Cuisine 14 years ago in Simsbury, Connecticut. He said he wanted to return to Massachusetts and when Scituate’s location became available he took action.

“I’m just waiting for the final inspections and it’s difficult to hire workers during a pandemic,” he said.

The menu will be a mix of Japanese and Thai dishes and, of course, sushi.

John and Brooke Galligan are the owners of Off the Hook in Houghs Neck.

With nautical decor and seafood dishes on the menu, Off the Hook is an ode to a time when Houghs Neck was a bustling fishing community. Owners John and Brooke Galligan also serve plenty of seafood and pub fare such as burgers, steaks, buffalo fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, fish and chips, and Rangoon lobster. Live music is offered on Saturday evenings. The Galligans also own the Hough Many Scoops ice cream shop.

The Playa Bowls chain opened on October 10 in East Milton Square.

The New Jersey Playa Bowls franchise made its South Shore debut on October 10 at East Milton Square. The popular acai and super fruit bowls take-out restaurant was founded by surfers Robert Giuliani and Abby Taylor.

On the menu are a variety of beach and tropical themed bowls, smoothies and fresh juices such as Pink Flamingo, which is made with a Pitaya mix topped with granola, banana and honey. Fall specials include The Harvest, a bowl of pure acai topped with pumpkin and flax granola, bananas, cocoa beans, cranberries, figs, sliced ​​almonds, coconut flakes , Nutella and cinnamon.

Shake Shack arrives in Derby Street stores in Hingham in 2022.

The popular Shake Shack burger chain is slated to open in Derby Street stores in 2022. It’s known for its burgers, fries and chicken sandwiches. Shake Shack opened in 2004 and now has over 300 locations worldwide, including Burlington, Boston, Cambridge and Dedham.

Derby Street stores are located at 92-98 Derby St., Hingham;

Nomai is expected to open later this year in Derby Street stores in Hingham.

Restaurateur Brian Moy is expected to open Nomai by the end of the year in the former Rustic Kitchen location of Derby Street stores. Moy owns China Pearl in Quincy and Shojo in Boston. The 6,300 square foot restaurant will have 130 seats and will serve Asian-inspired cuisine that includes a raw bar and appetizers and dishes designed for sharing and group meals. The restaurant received its operating licenses at a Hingham Select board meeting in August.

The G Pub restaurant opens on October 14 in Plymouth.

The G Pub is a 22,000 square foot dining and entertainment destination with an arcade and over 30 TVs for watching Bruins, Patriots, Celtics and Red Sox games. It has a dining room, bar and playground with table football, table tennis, arcade games and billiards.

A speakeasy-style lounge will soon open at the back of the house. The menu is “fine dining style” with touches on classics such as Italian nachos, made with fried pasta chips topped with asiago fondue, fresh tomato-basil relish and roasted eggplant. The restaurant opened on October 14.

The G Pub is located at 101 Carver Road, Plymouth, in the Village West Shopping Center;

Pam and Matthew Arias, from Cohasset, are opening a Crumbl cookie shop in November at Merchants Row in Hanover.  Wednesday 11 August 2021.

The dessert sensation Crumbl Cookies will soon fill an empty storefront in Hanover’s Merchants Row shopping center. In addition to its chocolate chip and sugar cookies, the store offers four different cookies each week (Funfetti, double fudge brownie, pumpkin cake) which are advertised on social media. The store should open in late December or early January.

Kingston Collection Study Room 101 is recruiting.

Study Hall 101, which will open later this fall in the former Waxy’s at Kingston Collection, is described as a library-inspired sports bar and American restaurant, which focuses on fresh, local ingredients. The 8,000 square foot restaurant features an oval bar in the middle of the dining room and a seasonal patio that seats 40 diners.

Opened on September 12, this Asian-inspired bakery is run by Quincy mother-daughter duo Armanda Britton and Meghan Phan. The decor is quite porky and diners are invited to enjoy a menu of Japanese gyoza, Filipino ube flavored products, Korean bento cakes as well as banana bread, macaroons, crème brûlée, choux pastry. cream and a selection of sandwiches.
