Michigan’s Best Local Eats: Flushing Bakery Thrives in New Location with Fresh Donuts and Big Deli Sandwiches

FLUSHING, MI — A Genesee County bakery recently added fresh donuts and an Italian espresso to its menu.

Marcella’s Market Fresh Bakery and Deli, 1444 E. Pierson Road, Flushing, offers a multitude of baked goods including sour cream coffee cakes, scones, carrot cakes, cookies, cupcakes, muffins , bread, brownies, lemon bars, donuts, pies and custom dishes. – baked cakes.

Recently the bakery moved from its former Chamberlain Street location to a red house about a mile away.

With the move, the bakery added new menu offerings like fresh homemade donuts and Italian espresso.

“All the equipment we’ve purchased is for making fresh donuts, so we’re not going to have frozen or pre-made donuts,” bakery owner Debie Lawrence told MLive-The Flint Journal. “Everything will be done on site here. They are going to be super fresh and tasty.

Donuts range in price from $1.65 to $2.35.

Lawrence is already gearing up to serve the community with five different flavors of paczkis for the upcoming Mardi Gras celebration on March 1.

In addition to baked goods, the menu also features large gourmet deli sandwiches such as La Mela with Turkey Breast, Vermont Cheddar, Dijon Mustard, and Crisp Apple with a Maple Glazed Honey Coat at 8.99 $.

The Chamberlain offers London Boar’s Head Grill, Vermont Cheddar, Horseradish Mayonnaise, Lettuce, Tomatoes and Onions for $11.99.

Customers can also choose to create their own sandwich. Soups and salads are also on the menu.

Some of the best sellers on the menu are cinnamon rolls, cheese rolls, and turkey rolls.

“I love being in our hometown, our community has been really supportive of us during COVID, which has given me enough money to move to the new location, so we used to rent in our old location, and we own this place, which makes a huge difference,” explained Laurent. “Since we have owned it, we have been able to do everything and make big investments.”

The new space also allows the business space to expand. Marcella’s now offers sectioned areas for the bakery and deli, Lawrence added.

In the near future, customers will be able to purchase Boar’s Head Meat Slices and Cheeses and some select items that are usually hard to find.

“When you come to our store, you get our bread and very high quality meat and cheese,” Lawrence said.

Business hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
