The Seymour Area Farmers Market will be open 8 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Walnut Street parking lot south of the tracks near the Jackson County Public Library. The market is also open from 8 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays.

Here is a look at two of the sellers and their products.

What items do you sell at the farmer’s market?

We sell treats the whole family can enjoy. Destiny specializes in a variety of flavors of cake pops, pumpkin buns, and no-bake chocolate cookies, as well as other delicious treats. Sabrina makes small, sweet apple pie tarts and blueberry lemon muffins. Michael sells his Mikey-Boy’s granola and two flavors of organic popcorn. VSHeryl’s items are all gluten-free, dairy-free, and egg-free, and she also makes many of her items with a sugar-free option.

How long have you been producing the items you sell in the market?

Cheryl has been gluten and dairy free for years, so she understands how difficult it can be to find truly safe treats. She’s also excited to see how gluten-free cooking has come a long way in recent years. The children of Maison Longue all grew up cooking and preparing meals for their large families.

Do you cook full time or is this a side activity for you?

This is a side activity for our home schooling family.

What made you want to get started in pastry making?

We’re each looking for ways to earn money for a big family trip next year. One of the older girls married a man in the military and they moved to Germany last December, where we plan to visit in the fall of 2022.

What is your favorite item (s) that you sell?

Destiny: Cake pops. Sabrina: Apple pies (they’re fun to make). Michael: Cinnamon popcorn (it’s delicious). Cheryl: It’s a mix between gluten-free banana bread (a family favorite) and keto wraps, which are versatile as sandwich wraps and tortillas.

What products from other suppliers do you like?

Each week we are looking for berries and other fruits, lettuce, tomatoes (including green tomatoes), maple syrup, zucchini (which we use in our gluten free zucchini bread), meats and honey. We look forward to completing this list as the season progresses.

Where did you learn to make your product? Classes? Self-taught? Mentors?

We are all self-taught. Cheryl started cooking each of her children from an early age.

Do you have a favorite book or author that you recommend to your clients or other entrepreneurs?

Cheryl recommends “Trim Healthy Mama” cookbooks to her customers for delicious gluten-free recipes.

Can we buy your products elsewhere or online?

Cheryl plans to start making healthy gluten-free treats at Lucabe Coffee Co. (for both sites) in Columbus very soon.

Do you mean something else?

We enjoy getting to know our clients as we seek to meet the diverse needs of the community.

What items do you sell at the farmer’s market?

We sell plant shoots, herbs, greens, lettuce, squash, tomatoes and jalapeño cheese bread.

How long have you been cultivating / producing the items you sell in the market?

My family has always gardened / cultivated. This is the first year that I have tried to cultivate seriously.

Do you farm or bake full time or is this a side activity for you?

On the business side, with a full-time objective.

What made you want to start farming or baking?

I have always loved gardening and grew up doing it. There will always be a demand for food, especially local products. It is truly gratifying to see a little seed become food for my family and other families. Being able to work outside and have a flexible schedule is another plus. Pastry has been a creative outlet for me. I am currently selling a type of bread at the farmer’s market. Ultimately, the goal is to expand the variety of breads I produce by incorporating locally grown herbs / vegetables.

What is your favorite item (s) that you sell?

The squash is my favorite. There are so many varieties.

What products from other suppliers do you like?

Wheat from Tricia and Dennis to Plumer and Bowers and honey from Brian (Apiary in Horselick Creek). All sellers sell high quality items.

Where did you learn to grow or produce your product? Classes? Self-taught? Mentors?

I’m still learning to cultivate and I’m not quite where I want to be yet. Much of it is trial and error. My dad and my mentors, especially Greg Manning at Stream Cliff Herb Farm. I help out there during the season and am incredibly grateful for the information and opportunities he has given me.

Can we buy your products elsewhere or online?

At this point, no. Eventually, we will have a farm stand on site.
