Genevieve Margaret (Ahlin) Laskowski – Duluth News Tribune

After a fulfilling and loving life of 96 years.

Geneviève Margaret (Ahlin) Laskowski passed away on March 29, 2022 with her family by her side.

On November 21, 1925, she was born in McKinley, MN to Josephine and Anton Ahlin.

After serving as valedictorian in high school, Gen graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Nursing.

Gen married Stanley Laskowski on November 13, 1948. Gen was devoted to her husband, family, and church.

As a member of St. Michael’s parish, she oversaw the former Used-A-Bit and Gabriel’s Bookstore for many years. She was always available to cook and work the many weddings, funerals, contributed to the annual craft shops and church activities.

She was married to Stanley for 65 years, she worked alongside him in the early years as an accountant. They have traveled the world together on numerous business trips which have been achieved through their hard work and dedication to the success of their business.

Gen’s greatest joy was his seven children and later great-grandchildren. Gen spent those years raising their children with commitment and compassion, her countless hours of schoolwork and outdoor activities reflected in the “family” environment she shaped with her children. Gen loved to read, especially for his children and grandchildren, crosswords and puzzle books were one of his favorite challenges. She carried that love by caring for neighbours, friends and anyone who met her, no matter what the situation, Gen was there to help and care in any way as if they were part of the family.

Her door was open to anyone at all times, a cookie jar was always full of muffins and fresh cookies, her favorite, a jar of peanut M&M’s was always on her table. Gen’s house was filled with hundreds of Owl items she collected on all her travels; everyone was numbered by where she found it.

Gen was predeceased by her husband Stanley, her parents Josie and Anton Ahlin, siblings; Anthony Ahlin, Margorie Fedora, Delores Hiti, MaryAnn Vukleich, Joan Lakosky and her daughter-in-law Vicki Laskowski.

She is survived by her children: David (Jayne) Little Egg Harbor, NJ, Jim (Jane) of Solon Springs, WI, Jean (Paul) Chilberg, Hermantown, Mary Laskowski, Duluth, Linda (Nick) Beeman Duluth, Donna ( Tim) Williams, Solon Springs WI, Paul (Debbie) Duluth. 17 grandchildren and 16 (soon to be 18) great-grandchildren.

Sister Rosemarie Kozel New Brighton, MN and brother Michael Ahlin Hoyt Lakes MN.

A huge thank you to the Ecumen fountains and palliative care team for their compassionate care and support in her final days and to her children, especially Donna who has cared for her for the past 6 years.

Per their wishes, there will be no public service, instead take time out of your day and invite someone to lunch, invite someone to dinner, or perform a random act of kindness in their memory. The family will host a private event honoring her life and the impact she left on all of us.

She will be buried next to her husband Stanley in Virginia MN.
