Fit to be Famous Q&A with actress, singer and reality star Rachel Bradshaw
How long have you been gluten free? What are some of your favorite gluten-free desserts or treats to make?
I have been gluten free for three years now and have never felt better! If I want a sweet treat, I’ll make dark chocolate oatmeal no-bake cookies. They are so delicious and actually quite healthy, or I’m going to make a garlic hummus with some fresh veg. I make an average gluten free lasagna that’s out of this world! I also love making a variety of chicken dishes with some sort of risotto or maybe a sweet potato situation, and I love a delicious butter lettuce salad with a house dressing.
Tell us about your workout routine.
I am the Ambassador for the HORWORX brand which is an infrared fitness studio franchise and it will kick your butt but also make you feel so good once you are done. I love the Hot Yoga session and the Hot Core session. The workouts last 30 minutes and you feel great afterwards thanks to the infrared technology. On the days I’m not at HOTWORX I’ll be going up on the treadmill at a 9.5 incline for 45 minutes and putting on my track jacket I’m going over too! I have 40 screws and two rods in the back from my spinal fusion surgery so a lot of stretches are good for my body to build strength as well. And of course, I’m going to give myself a few days off because your body needs to rest to build muscle.
How did you become the first brand ambassador with HORWORX? What is your favorite part of your collaboration with the brand?
Honestly, it’s sort of a fluke. I was having a hard time finding a workout that I could do physically without injuring myself or hurting my back and nothing was working. I have tried everything – and I mean everything. I came across HOTWORX because a friend recommended it to me and I gave it a try and fell in love with the concept and how my body transforms and heals. I will never forget I was in a session and touched my toes for the first time in almost two years and started crying so I sent CEO Stephen Smith my testimonial via a DM Instagram, not expecting him to respond, and the rest is history! We have developed a partnership in a few weeks and I am very proud to be their ambassador.
Tell us about your journey with scoliosis and the impact of surgery on your fitness routine.
Scoliosis is not a problem. It can be very harmful to the body and more people suffer from it than you might think. Mine was so sore, my spine looked like an “S” on my x-rays and I got to the point where I couldn’t breathe, stand or sit for over 30 minutes or so. It’s a very vulnerable situation and I struggled with a lot of pain before biting the bullet and doing something. I was born with this hereditary medical condition …. my dad, grandma and uncle on my dad’s side all have it pretty badly so I wasn’t surprised when I found out I had it . It had a huge impact on my fitness routine as I am very limited physically. No running or heavy lifting, which is why I fell in love with HOTWORX because it gets the job done without damaging your body.
What’s the best part about working alongside and filming âThe Bradshaw Bunchâ with your family?
I grew up with a father who always worked to support our family, but that also meant not spending as much family time together as we always would have liked. Spending so much quality time working with them now has been such a gift as we can finally make up for lost time, and more! I love filming it and we’re having a blast!
How are you going to spend the holidays this year?
I will be here in Texas with the whole family to relax and spend time together. We go big at Christmas and have so many fun traditions that I always feel like a dizzy little kid as the holiday season approaches! Lots of cooking and lots of card games, we go fishing, watch movies, build fires and relax. My sister Erin is expected overnight with her first baby, so we’ll have a little bundle of joy here this Christmas that will be so much fun!
In addition to filming with your father, Terry Bradshaw, you also wrote and recorded your new Christmas single, “Christmas To Me”, with him. How was it ?
It was so much fun! I love Christmas and it’s a special time with our family where we are all together, so I wanted to come out with something that suited that and our traditions as a family. I wanted a song that gives you a warm and cozy feel and so when I came up with the concept, I wrote it with my producer, Leland Grant, and another amazing songwriter, Stephony Smith, in about an hour. I sent it to dad and he loved it! We both went into the studio and let the cameras in to film the whole process, and knowing my dad we ended up laughing so much and having a great time, which everyone will be able to see this season! It was a very special moment to record this with my father. I will never forget this experience.
Do you have any favorite holiday “cheat meals” that you’re looking forward to?
I love myself a casserole of green beans !! My mom makes it gluten free and it’s delicious! I take carbs while on vacation because I’m so strict with myself all year round, so now is the time for me to have fun and eat all the delicious foods. My dad smokes a nice ham too, which is always amazing, and I love the party chex mix everyone makes. I usually have to hide the bag! I also love a hot frosted sugar cookie⦠you can’t beat that.
What are you most excited about for 2022? And where can we follow you?
I’m an Instagram girl so you can always see what I’m up to on @racheltbradshaw! I’m releasing a bit more music at the start of the year, and I have a few commercial projects we’re working on that will be more visible next year, and I can’t wait to share more. And I’m happy to be sharing all of this with a very special new man in my life, so I can’t wait to see what 2022 has in store for all of us!
