Buttermint in Shorewood now serves weekend brunch

Buttermint, the Shorewood Restaurant which pays homage to the mid-century, offers an all-new weekend brunch and incorporates dishes from the 60s into the menu.

The restaurant, in the Mosaic building at 4195 N. Oakland Ave., will serve brunch from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The brunch menu should change frequently, like Buttermint’s dinner menu. Here is what is expected on the menu at the beginning of September:

In the favorites category ($14 to $18), items include eggs Benedict on homemade crumpets with bacon, poached eggs, Hollandaise sauce and a side salad; blackberry buttermilk waffle, white chocolate mousse, whipped cream and maple syrup; and Scrambled Tofu with Curried Sweet Potatoes, Wild Rice, Sun Dried Tomatoes and Swiss Chard. There’s also a two-egg-and-meat breakfast with rösti potatoes, an Evalon de LaClare aged goat cheese omelette, mushrooms and spinach, and a double burger.

Beneath the menu classics ($20 to $26) are ’60s-inspired dishes, like chicken a la king; breaded chicken breast with fried eggs, asparagus and chicory; and Diane steak in mushroom sauce with fried eggs and toast.

One of the classic dishes paying homage to the 1960s on Buttermint's new brunch menu in Shorewood is chicken à la roi.

Small plates include avocado toast ($14) and deviled eggs ($9).

The restaurant will also serve hot donuts with chocolate sauce and brandy custard on the side, and it will offer a changing range of coffee cakes and large cookies from owner Black Shoe Hospitality’s bakery, which also supplies sister restaurants Blue’s Egg and Story Hill BKC on Milwaukee’s West Side with breakfast treats.

Besides coffee, espresso drinks, chai lattes and juices, the drinks menu ($8-$10) will include Bloody Marys made from a house blend, mimosa, French 75, Aperol spritz, Alexander coffee and bourbon cream coffee, amaretto cream and Irish cream. or Rumchata.

Like dinner, the brunch will end with mints offered to customers with the check.

Reservations can be made by buttermintrestaurant.com on OpenTable or by phone, (414) 488-2587. Thirty places will be available for customers coming without a reservation.
