Bake Off is my fashion week, any day of the year
I’m the first to admit that I love loud fashion. No beige for me, I’ll take all the colors of the rainbow at once, thank you very much. But my number one style icon may surprise: Pastry shop.
Yes, the glorious cooking show The Great British Bake Off and the Aussie spin-off magically transforms my couch into the front row of Fashion Week. And I’m not alone here – Pastry shop The Australian Instagram account has started sharing style notes for each episode so followers can easily find brands and dress like Maggie Beerif they wish.
And why wouldn’t you? ! Maggie is a vision in all her colorful, floaty numbers, complete with spectacular accessories – which actually inspired a set of cookies by this year’s winner, Ella Rossanis!
In the same way, Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith regularly wears giant necklaces that look like lollipops, and always, always matching glasses. To be fair, she had some big shoes to fill – judge OG Mary Berry wasn’t shy about the color and once wore a fluorescent blazer on the show, reminiscent of the Queen waving from the balcony of Buckingham Palace on her 90th birthday.
Current co-host, comedian and absolute style icon Christmas Fielding is in a separate field. In addition to walking around with aplomb in platform shoes, he did a spectacular collaboration with the Australian fashion brand WAH-WAH. Sure, the Bowie sweater he co-designed for charity sold out as soon as he wore it on the show, but if you’re lucky, you can get in on pre-orders when there are. has a new series.
A special mention to my absolute favorite British baking star, Nadiya Hussain. I’m obsessed with Nadia’s bright, bubbly style, as seen in her standalone Netflix and BBC shows.
But when I recently caught the 2015 reruns Pastry shop series in which she was crowned the winner, I was shocked to see that her style at the time was quite the opposite – very toned down with lots of blacks and browns. I want to believe it was Pastry shop which sparked Nadia’s style revolution. Also, can she please take me shopping with her sometimes?
